Prayer and Action: The Teachings of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
prayer lives - and lives in general!- with greater spirit and insight, focusing on the ways in which personal prayer can
lead to public concern and a commitment to act on the behalf of others. All are welcome.

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel was one of the great religious leaders of the 20th century.
Born in Europe and descended from a prominent rabbinic line, Heschel provided a vital link to the teachings
and spirit of European Jewry. At the same time, Heschel was a relentless pioneer, to this day inspiring Jews
to devote themselves more fully to love and justice, and to reawaken to the wonder that is our reality.
His demands to students and leaders involved both the internal and external realms. While he urged the further
cultivation of a personal connection to God through prayer, he also walked arm in arm with Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma.
