  • Stone Soup Volunteers

Beit Am volunteers provide a meal for people in need on a monthly basis. You can join this volunteer group and help give back to our community. This is a very worthy activity and your help would be appreciated by many people.

The second Thursday in every month is the Beit Am rotation to make the Stone Soup kitchen serve up a wholesome meal to people in need.

Stone Soup happens at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in the gym off 25th Street, (you can enter from 23rd or 25th at the north end of St. Mary's building complex).

From 1 PM to 5 PM there is cooking with some clean-up from cooking.

From 5 PM to 7 PM the meal is served and there is a cleanup time.

If there are enough volunteers we are out by 7 PM. Anyone over the age of 13 is welcome to volunteer.

Prayer and Action: The Teachings of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Wednesdays, May 28 and June 4 at 7 PM

In this class, we will engage primarily with his writings on prayer. Our aim will include the infusion of our own
prayer lives - and lives in general!- with greater spirit and insight, focusing on the ways in which personal prayer can
lead to public concern and a commitment to act on the behalf of others. All are welcome.

    MLKing and Rab. AJHeschel picture
Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel was one of the great religious leaders of the 20th century. Born in Europe and descended from a prominent rabbinic line, Heschel provided a vital link to the teachings
and spirit of European Jewry. At the same time, Heschel was a relentless pioneer, to this day inspiring Jews
to devote themselves more fully to love and justice, and to reawaken to the wonder that is our reality.
His demands to students and leaders involved both the internal and external realms. While he urged the further
cultivation of a personal connection to God through prayer, he also walked arm in arm with Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma.
