Religious Services
Beit Am welcomes diversity in Jewish worship and seeks
opportunities to accommodate its congregation.
Religious Services are held on a regular basis.
In all services men and women are counted in the minyan
and are called to the Torah. Newcomers and visitors are most welcome
at all the services.
The schedule of services
is included in the
community events calendar.
The schedule of the services uses these terms to describe the types of
services being held on any particular date:
- Reform/Conservative
- 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm on
scheduled friday nights.
The service consists of a nice mix of Hebrew (with transliterations)
and English, with lots of singing. The service lasts about an hour and
is followed by an oneg and schmoozing.
We welcome people of all ages.
- Kabbalat Shabbat Friday Evening Services
- 7:30 pm
A fairly traditional service, using the Kol Haneshamah (Reconstructionist) siddur,
which has a lot of transliteration and helpful commentary and teaching.
- Sim Shalom Shabbat morning service
- Meets as
scheduled, 9:30 am to 12:00 noon,
using the Sim Shalom (Conservative) siddur, followed by a kiddush.
It is a full service, mostly in Hebrew with lots of singing,
an abbreviated Torah reading, and a brief devar Torah.
Egalitarian.
- Kol Haneshamah Service
- Saturday, 9:30 am
followed by a noon kiddush, Potluck lunch and Torah study.
A service following the general structure of a traditional service,
incorporating lots of explanation and guidance, using the Kol Haneshamah
(Reconstructionist) siddur.
A nice fit for older kids (though, as with any service, kids of any age are warmly
welcomed!) as well as anyone looking to become more
comfortable with the Shabbat morning service.
Note: Egalitarian indicates that men and women are counted in
the minyan as well as called to the Torah.
Newcomers and visitors are welcome at all the services.
