The Story of Jews in Oregon

Sunday, May 19th, 7 PM

At Beit Am

Join Eliezer Froehlich for a viewing and discussion of OPB “Oregon Experience” episode, The Jewish Frontier.

When OPB approached the Oregon Jewish in Portland about devoting an episode to Oregon Jewish history, Beit Am’s own Eliezer Froehlich was recommended as one the local experts. Eliezer is featured as a “talking head” in this outstanding 2016 documentary that covers 150 years of Oregon Jewish history in 60 minutes. See this engaging review in The Forward.

Eliezer has held offices in both the Oregon Jewish Genealogical Society and the Jewish Genealogical Society of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. He’s been fielding information queries for decades about Congregation Beth Israel, Oregon’s oldest synagogue, and he assisted with the research for Gary Miranda and David Bernstein’s book, Following A River: Portland's Congregation Neveh Shalom, 1969-1989.

Eliezer’s own family first migrated to the Oregon Territory in 1852 and later spread throughout the state.
